How can an instrumental temperature record be reliable when any particular temperature sensor may not? I created this program to illustrate that as you add data points (or thermometers) the random variation of individual data points tend to even out. Below you can create and randomly flip coins. The average is shown. Then as repeat with additional coins, you can observe the variance diminish.
